It's the nature of people to form affinities based upon common interests and goals. Something as driven as rebuilding a tot-lot such as the one adjacent to the Eliot Church (memorializing the spirit of young Jack Kaczmarek) used by kids in Farlow Park demonstrates the power of coming together as a community. Sometimes a heated discussion of an intersection lends itself to a new traffic light or crosswalk.
